Los Angeles -- Cal Poly Humboldt Men's Basketball took on top of the conference Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon from University Gym. The Golden Eagles received votes in the national poll this past week and they proved tough, defeating the Lumberjacks with ease 81-59.
Rob Diaz III continues to standout for Humboldt, as he posted 16 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
Emanuel Steward added 12 points of his own.Ā
Sage Wayans evened the game 7-7 after converting a layup at the 14 minute mark and
Emanuel Steward gave Humboldt a 10-9 lead when he sank a shot from beyond the arc. From the 12:28 mark on, LA outscored Humboldt 32-13 to close out the first half and went up 41-23.Ā
The Golden Eagles extended their comfortable lead to as many as 27 points in the second half. A 12-0 run by Humboldt with just under 10 minutes to go brought the Jacks to within 14 points, but LA increased their lead into the 20's once again and closed the game with a final score of 81-59.Ā Despite the large deficit, the Lumberjacks paced LA in the second half and were only outscored by four points (40-36).Ā
