ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt aimed to remain undefeated on their home floor this season after hosting Cal State San Marcos Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena. The first place Cougars came in as the only team in the CCAA with double digits in the win column for conference play. With a tough task at hand, Humboldt controlled San Marcos for most of the game but fell in the final few minutes to the Cougars with a final score of 62-56.
Emilia Long scored a season-high 23 points on 50 percent shooting, had eight rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block.
Emilia Long got her impressive night started early, as she put Humboldt on the board first after sinking a three-pointer on the first possession of the game. The Lumberjacks went up 12-2 and their hot start forced San Marcos to use a timeout. Despite being up 11 points with 3:27 left in the first, the Cougars went on a 9-2 run to close out the first quarter of play. Jacks led 20-16.
San Marcos tied the game at 22 in the second period of play. Humboldt got hot from beyond the arc and went on a 10-2 run to jump out in front of the Cougars 32-24.
Julia Calvin hit back to back threes to lead the run for the Jacks. At the half, Humboldt led the first place Cougars 36-29.
Despite maintaining a 45-43 lead in the third quarter, the Jacks were held to just nine points in the period. At the 6:19 mark of the fourth quarter, San Marcos grabbed their first lead of the game.
