'Jacks Falls to Cal Poly Pomona in Road Contest

POMONA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer (3-9-4, 2-6-2 CCAA) faced off against Cal Poly Pomona (9-1-6, 4-0-5 CCAA) on Friday evening at Kellogg Stadium, ultimately falling 3-0 to the undefeated Broncos in a hard-fought match that tested the Lumberjacks' defensive resilience.

The Broncos struck early with a pair of goals in the first half. Mads Frederiksen opened the scoring in the 16th minute, followed by a goal from Mike Moser in the 29th minute to give Pomona a 2-0 lead. The Lumberjacks picked up momentum in the second half, posting seven shots – including three on goal – but were unable to break through against the Pomona defense. A late goal by Mauro Rafael in the 80th minute, assisted by Ethan Benham, solidified Pomona's lead.

Despite the loss, Humboldt's defense showed tenacity, with goalkeeper Adrian Gallardo making five saves across both halves to limit Pomona's 21 shots (eight on goal) to three scores. Humboldt managed four corner kicks and eight fouls in a tightly contested match.

The match saw five yellow cards, with Humboldt's Ethan Conaty, Jai Sternhall, Adrian Gallardo, and Marcus Abdel-Malek receiving cautions throughout the game. Humboldt fought hard in the second half, registering all seven of their shots after the break but were unable to find the back of the net against Pomona's strong defensive unit.

Cal Poly Humboldt will look to bounce back in their next match against Cal State San Bernardino as they continue conference play. This contest was another matchup for the inaugural Cal Poly Clash that began this season between the only Cal Poly's in the CCAA, Humboldt of the north and Pomona of the south.
