'Jacks Earn Sweep over Chico on Senior Day

ARCATA, Calif. – On an electrifying Senior Night in front of 222 fans at Lumberjack Arena, Cal Poly Humboldt's volleyball team celebrated a resounding 3-0 sweep over rival Chico State. The Lumberjacks showcased a powerful performance to honor seniors Allaina HoukShanaley Iakopo, Aurora MeneghettiAwelina Fakalata, and Kyra Slavik, closing out the home season with style. Humboldt overpowered Chico State from start to finish, winning by set scores of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-10. 

Dominant Defense and Fierce Offense
The Lumberjacks' defense shone bright, with a total of 63 digs to Chico State's 68. Sophia Spoja led the team with 14 digs, tied with Fakalata. Kyra Slavik added 13 digs, demonstrating her versatility and impact on both sides of the ball.

On the offensive front, Humboldt had hitting percentage of .151, significantly higher than Chico's .008. Fakalata led with eight kills, supported by Houk's career-high seven and Slavik's five. Meneghetti's five service aces, also a career high, energized the crowd and disrupted Chico's rhythm, with Fakalata and freshman Brielle Wilson adding two aces apiece.

Senior's Shine
Each senior contributed significantly in their final home match, setting the tone for a memorable night. Meneghetti and Houk led the block count with four each, forming an impenetrable wall at the net. Slavik tallied 11 assists, working alongside Wilson, who led with 13 assists, to orchestrate the offense seamlessly.

In total, the Lumberjacks recorded 33 kills to Chico's 26, displaying an efficient and balanced offensive approach. 

A Bright Ending to the Home Season
The sweep over Chico State marks a triumphant end to Humboldt's home season as they improved to 8-16 overall and 4-12 in CCAA play. With a relentless and spirited performance, the Lumberjacks sent their seniors out on a high note.

Looking Ahead
Cal Poly Humboldt will play their final two games of the season next week in Southern California. On Thursday (Nov. 14), the 'Jacks will take on No. 24 Cal State Los Angeles (14-9, 9-7 CCAA) at 5:00 PM from Golden Gymnasium, and then on Saturday (Nov. 16), Humboldt will play the final match of the season against Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-18, 3-13 CCAA) at 5:00 PM from the Torodome
