ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team faced a challenging matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling to a strong Alaska Anchorage squad 81-48. The Lumberjacks now hold a 0-2 record to start the season.
Alaska Anchorage came out strong, outscoring the Jacks in all four quarters. The Seawolves' balanced offense was led by Elaina Mack and Ashlyn Rean, each scoring 16 points. The Seawolves took an early lead, ending the first quarter up 22-11 and maintained their momentum throughout, scoring 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Humboldt showed sparks of intensity, with
Riley Sanz leading the team with 10 points, including two three-pointers. Guard
Kaiija Lesane also contributed from beyond the arc, scoring eight points. Forward
Dylan Lovett added seven points.
The Seawolves capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 35 points, while Humboldt struggled to find consistent scoring, particularly in the third quarter, where they posted just nine points. Alaska Anchorage also took advantage in the paint, scoring 48 points compared to Humboldt's 18.
On the boards, the Seawolves outrebounded Humboldt 38-24, with Tori Hollingshead pulling down nine rebounds to lead Anchorage. Humboldt's
Jadis Watson led her team with four rebounds and seven points, demonstrating resilience on both ends.
Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks showed flashes of potential, particularly in their outside shooting, with Humboldt hitting 35% from three-point range compared to Alaska Anchorage's 20%.
Cal Poly Humboldt will look to regroup and prepare for a road trip to Southern California, as they take on Concordia University Irvine on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 4:00 PM and nationally ranked Azusa Pacific on Tuesday (Nov. 19) at 5:00 PM.
