Close Battles in Texas See Saturday Split

CONROE, Texas -- Humboldt Softball faced off against two tough opponents in Texas Woman's University and Pittsburg State on day two at the First Pitch Invitational. Despite two tough battles, the North Coast squad defeated the Pioneers of Texas Woman's University with a final score of 3-1 and fell to Pittsburg State in game two with a final score of 3-0, which was good for a Saturday split.

Alyssa Ramirez went 3-for-5 on the day with a double, walk, and two RBI's. Gaige Garcia earned her first win on the season in game one, pitching six innings while notching seven strikeouts. Vanessa Richie recorded the save after striking two out in the seventh inning.

Game Two vs. Pittsburg State (L, 3-0)
The Gorillas of Pittsburg State scored two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning. Alyssa Ramirez doubled to start the home half of the first inning for Humboldt, but the 'Jacks couldn't find a way to bring her home. In the bottom of the fifth, Hailey Meisenbach doubled to left center but pinch runner Grace Rosebrook was thrown out trying to advance to third base on the relay from center field. The Gorillas carried that momentum of holding Humboldt from scoring into the sixth inning, when they scratched a run of their own across the plate on three hits. The 'Jacks struggled to get offensive momentum on their side and fell to the undefeated Pittsburg State (4-0) with a final score of 3-0.
