Hilo, HI – The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks (2-1, 0-0 CCAA) secured their second win of the season by defeating the Hawaii Pacific Sharks (0-5, 0-0 PacWest) in a four-set battle at Vulcan Gym on Friday night. After dropping the first set 19-25, the Lumberjacks rallied to win three straight sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-14) and clinch the victory in front of nearly 100 spectators.

The Sharks came out strong in the first set, capitalizing on early errors by Cal Poly Humboldt to take a 25-19 win. However, the Lumberjacks quickly found their rhythm in the second set, improving their hitting percentage to .222 and holding Hawaii Pacific to a .071 percentage to win 25-15. The third set saw an even more dominant performance from the 'Jacks, with a .368 hitting percentage that powered them to a 25-18 win. Cal Poly Humboldt sealed the match with a 25-14 victory in the fourth set, bolstered by strong defensive efforts and key blocks.

Cal Poly Humboldt was led by
Awelina Fakalata, who recorded a game-high 20 kills and added 18 digs, tallying her second double-double of the season.
Madyn Cervellera contributed 14 kills, while
Graysen Trupp added 12 kills and 3 service aces. Also recording 3 service aces was
Mackenzie Gilchrist. Setter
Kyra Slavik orchestrated the offense with 42 assists and chipped in with 9 digs. On the defensive side,
Allaina Houk led with 3 blocks.
Sophia Spoja had an outstanding performance defensively with 17 digs.
For Hawaii Pacific, Lindsey Tapp had a team-high 7 kills, 4 aces, and 12 digs. Tehani Pescaia dished out 19 assists, while Brynne Hopeau-Lampitoc contributed 12 digs and 1 ace. Ali Rumpel and Sophia Cooper each had 3 blocks to anchor the defense.

Cal Poly Humboldt outperformed Hawaii Pacific in several statistical categories, leading in kills (56-32), aces (10-5), and digs (60-40). The Lumberjacks also had a higher hitting percentage (.248) compared to the Sharks (.150) and held a 4-6 edge in blocks.
