SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Despite a strong first and fourth-quarter effort, the Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team could not overcome a rash of turnovers, falling 70-60 to Cal State San Marcos on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center. The loss dropped the Jacks to 5-11 overall and 4-6 in CCAA play, while the Cougars picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-14 overall and 1-8 in conference.
Turnovers were the story of the game, as Humboldt committed 23 to San Marcos' 18. The Cougars capitalized with 19 points off turnovers, compared to 12 for the Jacks.

- Dylan Lovett led the Jacks with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added three rebounds and two steals in 40 minutes.
- Riley Sanz contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

San Marcos was paced by Rory Hetrick, who matched Lovett's 19 points while also collecting six rebounds and three steals. Rose Morse added 14 points and knocked down three triples, while Camille Johnson provided a spark off the bench with 13 points and five rebounds.

San Marcos took control in the third quarter, outscoring Humboldt 17-6 behind sharp shooting and a dominant defensive effort. The Jacks mounted a late rally in the fourth, scoring 24 points and hitting 10 free throws, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
