Humboldt Falls to Stanislaus State in Competitive Matchup

TURLOCK, Calif. — The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team fought hard but ultimately fell short, dropping a 62-56 decision to Stanislaus State on Saturday evening at Fitzpatrick Arena. Despite a strong fourth-quarter rally, the Lumberjacks couldn't overcome early shooting struggles, moving to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in CCAA play.

Game Summary

Both teams traded blows early, with the first quarter ending in a 14-14 tie. Humboldt's three-point shooting kept them competitive, but a cold second and third quarter saw the Lumberjacks score just 13 combined points. Stanislaus State capitalized on Humboldt's shooting woes to build a lead, thanks to a standout performance from Alyssa Premo, who led all scorers with 18 points.

Humboldt mounted an impressive comeback in the final period, outscoring the Warriors 29-24. Kyori Lloyd and Riley Sanz combined for 12 fourth-quarter points, but Stanislaus State's clutch free-throw shooting—16-for-20 in the fourth quarter alone—sealed the game.

Key Performances

  • Kyori Lloyd: The junior forward led the Lumberjacks with 13 points, adding nine rebounds and one block in 31 minutes of action.

  • Riley Sanz: The guard contributed 10 points, including two three-pointers, while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out three assists.

  • Andjela Pavicevic: Provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes.

Stanislaus State's balanced attack featured Alyssa Premo's 18 points, including three three-pointers, while Da'Myiah Lewis added 15 points, going 10-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Team Stats

Humboldt shot 30.6% (19-for-62) from the field and 26.5% (9-for-34) from beyond the arc, compared to Stanislaus State's 33.3% (18-for-54) overall shooting and 24.0% (6-for-25) from deep. The Lumberjacks outrebounded the Warriors 44-42, including 13 offensive boards, leading to eight second-chance points.

Turnovers proved costly for Humboldt, as Stanislaus State scored 15 points off the Lumberjacks' 14 turnovers. Bench contributions were a bright spot for Humboldt, with 18 points coming from reserves.
