LIVERMORE, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer fell 6–1 on Friday afternoon against Cal State East Bay at Las Positas College Soccer Field. The Lumberjacks move to 3–7–1 overall and 0–3–0 in CCAA play, while the Pioneers improve to 3–3–3 overall and 1–0–2 in conference action.
The Pioneers struck early, scoring twice in the opening half to take a 2–0 lead into the break. East Bay's Jonas Banouas found the back of the net in the 16th minute off a feed from Alejandro Zarate, followed by a 35th-minute goal from Julian Valle.
East Bay added to its lead in the 59th minute when Zarate converted on an assist from Kiichi Murakami. Just over a minute later, the Lumberjacks responded as Nathan Murff scored his third goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 3–1.
The Pioneers, however, answered with three goals in quick succession — from Eugenio Perez-Vera Merino, Andres Garcia-Diaz, and Oliver Gonzalez — to close out the 6–1 final.
Cal Poly Humboldt finished with seven shots, including two on target, while goalkeeper Alvaro Nieves recorded three saves on the day.
The Lumberjacks return home to College Creek Field next weekend. Humboldt will host No. 3 ranked Stanislaus State on Friday at 3:00 p.m., before celebrating Senior Day on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Cal State San Bernardino.
