ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt's Social Equity & Accountability (SEA) Committee has announced the recipients of its annual SEA Scholarship for the 2025–26 academic year. This year's honorees are Alexa Garcia from softball and Lucas Garin from track & field.
"Receiving the SEA Scholarship means so much to me," said Garcia. "It helps ease the cost of my education and gives me extra motivation to keep working hard in both school and softball. This award shows me that others believe in my potential, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity it gives me to continue reaching my goals."
The SEA Scholarship was created to encourage student-athletes to think critically about their roles as leaders on campus and in the community while easing financial burdens to help them pursue their academic and athletic aspirations.
"I am truly honored and grateful to be selected as a recipient of the Social Equity and Accountability (SEA) Scholarship," said Garin. "This support not only helps me financially as I pursue my academic and professional goals, but also inspires me to give back by fostering the same values of equity, accountability, and opportunity in my future career. I am especially proud to represent the Cal Poly Humboldt Track and Field team under the SEA title, and I will carry this recognition with great responsibility and gratitude."
Applicants must be student-athletes listed on an active Cal Poly Humboldt NCAA Division II team roster and be eligible to compete in the upcoming academic year. Each candidate submits a personal statement addressing what social equity and accountability mean to them, how they demonstrate these values in athletics and academics, and how those principles guide their leadership on and off the field.
The recipients were selected by the SEA Committee.
