POMONA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball put up a determined fight on the road Saturday evening, but the Jacks ultimately fell to (RV) Cal Poly Pomona in four sets (14-25, 25-23, 11-25, 14-25) at Kellogg Arena. With the loss, Humboldt moves to 1-19 overall and 1-11 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play, while Pomona remains the only unbeaten in conference action at 14-4 overall and 12-0 in the CCAA.
Freshman Isabella Hartwig led the way for the Jacks with a career-high 12 kills, hitting .267 and adding four blocks to pace the Humboldt front line. Graysen Trupp continued her strong offensive season with 10 kills and two service aces, while Tatyana Jennings contributed five kills and three blocks.
Setter Brielle Wilson directed the Humboldt attack with 22 assists and chipped in two aces and three blocks. Defensively, Sophia Spoja and Kendall Fenstermacher anchored the back row with nine digs apiece, while Claire Crawford added eight.
After dropping the opening set, Humboldt responded with its best frame of the night in set two. The Jacks hit .195 as a team—led by Trupp's five kills—and held Pomona to just .068 hitting to claim the 25-23 victory. However, the Broncos' balanced offense and depth proved too much down the stretch as they closed out the match with strong hitting performances in the third (.464) and fourth (.452) sets.
As a team, Humboldt hit .099 with 33 kills, five aces, and seven blocks. Pomona countered with 57 kills on a .315 clip, 12 aces, and seven blocks.
The Jacks return home next week to kick off the final stretch of the regular season. They host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. for Halloween Costume Night—fans wearing a costume will receive a trick-or-treat bag. Humboldt then hits the road for a Saturday matchup at Cal State East Bay on November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
