ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt capped its 2025 season with a dramatic five-set victory on Senior Day, outlasting Cal State East Bay 25-17, 16-25, 10-25, 25-21, 17-15 on Saturday afternoon inside Lumberjack Arena. The win marked the Lumberjacks' third of the season and a memorable sendoff for their lone senior, Sophia Spoja, who was honored prior to the match for her leadership and commitment to the program.
In her final appearance in the Green and Gold, Spoja filled the stat sheet with 12 digs, five assists, and two aces, helping guide Humboldt to its third five-set win of the year.
The Lumberjacks opened strong with a .261 hitting percentage in the first set, fueled by Graysen Trupp's early swings as Humboldt cruised to a 25-17 win. The Pioneers responded with back-to-back set wins behind their offense, which hit an impressive .577 in the third frame, but Humboldt refused to go quietly.
Trailing 2-1 in sets, the Jacks rallied behind the energy of their home crowd, taking the fourth set 25-21 behind 13 team kills and timely plays from Tatyana Jennings.
In the decisive fifth, Humboldt traded points deep into extra rallies before closing it out 17-15. Trupp led the way with 11 kills, followed by Jennings with eight and Isabella Hartwig with seven. Wilson ran the offense with 20 assists and added eight digs, while Kendall Fenstermacher anchored the back row with 15 digs.
As a team, Humboldt posted 12 aces—matching the Pioneers—and tallied 58 digs to secure the victory.
The win gives Cal Poly Humboldt a 3-23 overall record (3-15 CCAA) to close the campaign, while Cal State East Bay finishes at 13-13 (10-8 CCAA).
It was a fitting finale for the Lumberjacks—celebrating a senior, a hard-fought win, and the heart of a team that never stopped competing.
