ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball closed out play at the CCAA/GNAC Crossover on Saturday evening, falling 73-66 to Central Washington inside Lumberjack Arena. Despite a late surge in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats held off the Lumberjacks' comeback bid to remain unbeaten.
Freshman center Jordyn Smith capped off a standout tournament performance with another double-double, leading the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds on 10-of-17 shooting. Smith was later named to the CCAA/GNAC Crossover All-Tournament Team after averaging 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and shooting 60% (18-for-30) across the two games.
After trailing by as many as 15 points midway through the third quarter, Humboldt (0-2) stormed back with a dominant 25-point fourth quarter. Kyori Lloyd caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers en route to 14 points, while Sienna Cherwinski and Shade Satica each chipped in seven points.
The Lumberjacks shot 43.6% from the field and a strong 50% from three-point range, connecting on 8-of-16 attempts. Humboldt also forced 18 Central Washington turnovers, converting them into 16 points.
Central Washington (2-0) was led by Asher Cai's 31 points and Capri Sims' double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. The Wildcats finished a perfect 20-for-20 from the free-throw line to help seal the win.
Humboldt outscored CWU 25-18 in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to one with under 30 seconds to play, but the Wildcats' late free throws proved to be the difference.
The Lumberjacks will return to action next weekend when they travel to SoCal and take on Biola University in a non-conference matchup on Saturday at 2:00 PM from Chase Gymnasium.
