Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Drew Gwerder

Jacks Close Out Sprite Tundra Tip-Off with Setback to Alaska Fairbanks

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Playing in their second game in as many days at the Sprite Tundra Tip-Off, Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball saw three Lumberjacks finish in double figures but ultimately fell 57-66 to Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday evening at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Raydon Thorson led the way for the Jacks (2–4) with an efficient 15-point performance off the bench, shooting 6-of-9 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc while adding four rebounds and two assists. Zaveion Bineyard posted a strong all-around night with 13 points, eight boards, and a team-high three steals across 37 minutes. Dorrell Thomas rounded out the double-digit scorers, knocking down three triples on his way to 11 points.

Humboldt opened the night shooting over 52 percent in the first half and trailed just 33–30 at the break. Thorson provided a spark with 13 first-half points to keep the contest tight.

The second half saw the Nanooks (3–3) maintain their edge behind a 24-point outing from Mike Miller. Despite Humboldt's defensive pressure forcing 13 turnovers and generating 15 points off giveaways, Alaska Fairbanks' interior scoring and late shot-making proved the difference. The Jacks received 25 points from the bench and knocked down eight threes in the game, but the Nanooks' 38 points in the paint allowed them to stay in control throughout the second period.

Cal Poly Humboldt finished the night shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from deep, while collecting 32 total rebounds, including eight from Bineyard and four from Thorson.

The Jacks now return home for the first time looking to build momentum as they open California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
