Defensive Statement Powers Cal Poly Humboldt Past Saint Martin’s

ARCATA, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball put together one of its strongest defensive efforts of the season Monday night, holding Saint Martin's to just 18 first-half points on the way to a decisive 61–44 victory inside Lumberjack Arena. The win moves the Jacks to 4–4 overall.

The Jacks set the tone early, storming out to a 19–7 lead after the first quarter and suffocating the Saints throughout the opening half. Humboldt's defensive pressure forced Saint Martin's into 27% shooting for the night and generated 15 steals, turning defensive stops into 23 points off turnovers.

Standout Performances

Humboldt's balanced offensive attack was led by Shade Satica, who filled the stat sheet with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a game-high six steals. Satica's on-ball pressure was a key driver of Humboldt's first-half defensive dominance.

Jordyn Smith delivered a powerhouse performance in the paint, recording a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double, including 11 defensive boards. Smith went 7-of-11 from the field and added two blocks to anchor the interior.

Sienna Cherwinski continued her efficient shooting, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-6 from the floor while adding two rebounds and an assist.

Jada Barnes rounded out Humboldt's double-digit scorers with 10 points, four rebounds, and four steals, consistently creating transition opportunities.

Team Efficiency

The Jacks shot an impressive 46.8% from the field and knocked down six threes, while holding Saint Martin's to just 15 made field goals for the game. Humboldt controlled the pace, winning the fast-break battle 13–5 and maintaining steady offensive production across all four quarters.
