Jacks Claw Past Cougars After Slow Start, Stay Perfect in CCAA Play

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt clawed its way back from a sluggish opening quarter to secure a 76-65 road victory over Cal State San Marcos on Friday evening at The Sports Center, remaining perfect in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

After being held to just five points in the first quarter, the Jacks responded with poise and physicality over the final three periods, outscoring the Cougars 71-50 the rest of the way. The win moved Humboldt to 3-0 in CCAA action, marking the program's best conference start since the 2019 season.

Kyori Lloyd provided a massive spark off the bench, pouring in a game and season-high 23 points on an efficient 6-for-9 shooting performance while knocking down 10 of her 12 attempts at the free-throw line. Lloyd consistently attacked the rim and helped shift the momentum as Humboldt settled into its offensive rhythm.

Jordyn Smith recorded her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds to anchor the Jacks on both ends of the floor. Smith added five blocks in a complete all-around performance and currently leads the CCAA in blocks per game while ranking 15th nationally.

Shade Satica contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, and six steals—continuing to lead the CCAA in steals per game and rank third nationally—while battling inside and helping Humboldt control the glass as the game wore on. Riley Sanz added 10 points of her own, knocking down a pair of three-pointers and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line to help seal the win.

Humboldt found its rhythm in the second quarter, shooting 42.9 percent and cutting into the early deficit, before taking control after halftime. The Jacks were especially effective at the free throw line, finishing 26-for-30 (86.7 percent), including a perfect 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter. Humboldt also forced 28 turnovers and converted them into 25 points.

Cal Poly Humboldt will look to keep its perfect conference record intact as CCAA play continues this weekend when they head to Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM and will stream live on FloCollege.
