SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team delivered a wire-to-wire performance on Saturday afternoon, forcing turnovers early and often to power past Cal State Monterey Bay, 62-49, inside the Otter Sports Center.
The victory moves the Jacks to 6-4 overall and 4-0 in CCAA play, marking their best start to conference action since the 2014 season.
From the opening tip, Humboldt set the tone defensively, jumping out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter and never relinquishing control. The Jacks held the Otters to just 15 points combined over the first two quarters, building a commanding 39-15 halftime advantage.
Points off turnovers proved decisive, as Humboldt capitalized on its defensive pressure to score 27 points off Monterey Bay miscues.
Shade Satica led all scorers with 16 points while adding five rebounds, four steals, and three assists in a complete all-around effort. Satica consistently attacked the lane and sparked multiple transition opportunities off turnovers.
Riley Sanz followed with 14 points on an efficient 5-for-12 shooting performance, knocking down all three of her attempts from beyond the arc and recording four steals on the defensive end.
Sienna Cherwinski logged all 40 minutes and contributed 10 points, four steals, and steady leadership as the Jacks maintained control from start to finish. Jordyn Smith anchored the paint, pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds while adding five blocks, six points, and three assists to frustrate Monterey Bay inside.
Cal Poly Humboldt shot 41.4 percent from the field and nearly 47 percent from three-point range, while holding the Otters to just 32.8 percent shooting overall. Monterey Bay made a late push in the fourth quarter, but the Jacks' early dominance proved too much to overcome.
The Jacks will return to action at home in 2026, hosting a CCAA weekend doubleheader at Lumberjack Arena. Humboldt will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, January 2 at 5:30 p.m. for Hometown Heroes Night, before welcoming Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, January 4 at 1:00 p.m. for Youth/Camper Day.
