Humboldt Secures Second Straight Victory, Opens CCAA Home Slate with Win Over Stanislaus State

ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball made a statement in its CCAA home opener Thursday night, using a dominant first half and standout performances from Sienna Cherwinski and Jordyn Smith to defeat Stanislaus State, 69–57, inside Lumberjack Arena. The victory marks the second straight win for the Lumberjacks, who improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in CCAA play.

The Jacks were sharp from the opening tip, outscoring the Warriors 20–17 in the first quarter before putting together a commanding 22–7 second-quarter surge to take a 42–24 lead into halftime. Humboldt's defensive pressure forced 24 Stanislaus turnovers, generating 17 points the other way.

Cherwinski and Smith Lead the Way

Junior guard Sienna Cherwinski powered the Humboldt offense with a game-high 16 points, knocking down two three-pointers while shooting 6-of-14 from the field. Her steady scoring helped Humboldt maintain control throughout the first half.

In the paint, freshman center Jordyn Smith delivered a dominant performance—one of the most impressive of the early season. Smith recorded a huge double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, repeatedly giving Humboldt second-chance opportunities. She added three assists, two blocks, and anchored the Jacks on both ends of the floor.

Team Contributions Fuel the Win

Humboldt received strong minutes from its bench, contributing 25 points, highlighted by Leamsi Acuna's nine points on 3-of-9 shooting from deep and Kyori Lloyd's seven-point outing.

Defensively, the Jacks collected 12 steals, led by Shade Satica (5 steals) and Kya Kanoho (3 steals), helping keep Stanislaus State to 34.5% shooting.

Despite a push from the Warriors in the second half, Humboldt maintained its composure, closing out the game behind key late buckets and resilient defense.
