CARSON, Calif. – Facing the second-ranked team in the nation and the only undefeated squad remaining in NCAA Division II, Cal Poly Humboldt put up a determined effort but ultimately fell 71-51 to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday evening at the Torodome.
Kyori Lloyd led the Lumberjacks with a standout performance, posting a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. It is Lloyd's fourth straight double-double and fifth of the season. The Lumberjacks stayed within striking distance early, trailing 16-12 after the opening quarter. A strong second quarter saw Humboldt shoot 50% from the field, including two three-pointers, but Dominguez Hills held an advantage on the boards and took a 34-27 lead into halftime.
Despite a hard-fought effort, the Toros extended their lead in the third quarter behind Nala Williams, who finished with a game-high 25 points, including five three-pointers. The hosts capitalized on second-chance opportunities, outrebounding Humboldt 50-38 while converting 21 second-chance points.
Humboldt's defense forced 15 turnovers, with Dailani Richardson recording three steals. The Lumberjacks also kept Dominguez Hills under their season shooting average, holding them to 32.4% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range.
