LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team struggled offensively in a 70-40 loss to Cal State LA on Saturday afternoon at University Gym. With the defeat, the Jacks have officially been eliminated from postseason contention.
Marley Johnson led the Jacks with a team-high 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc, while Jadis Watson contributed eight points. Dailani Richardson anchored the defense with a game-high nine rebounds, but the Jacks' offense never found its rhythm, shooting just 29.2% from the field.
The Golden Eagles set the tone early, jumping out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 32-9 at halftime. Despite an improved second-half effort, including a 16-point third quarter, the Jacks were unable to close the gap.
Nevaeh Asiasi powered Cal State LA with a game-high 22 points, shooting an efficient 9-of-12 from the floor and knocking down four three-pointers. The Golden Eagles capitalized on Humboldt's turnovers, scoring 24 points off giveaways and controlling the boards with a 45-31 rebounding advantage.
The Jacks (9-17, 8-12 CCAA) will look to finish the season strong as they return home for their final two games of the regular season. Tip-off for their next contest is scheduled for Thursday, February 27, at 5:30 PM in Lumberjack Arena against Cal State San Marcos (7-19, 7-13 CCAA).
