The Jacks racked up 20 hits in the victory, which is the most hits in a single game since February 10, 2018 (19 hits vs. Cal State Dominguez Hills), setting the tone early with a six-run second inning to seize control. Alyssa Smokey continued her strong start to the season in the circle, striking out five batters over six innings to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Humboldt wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, striking in the first inning when Julia Rivera singled through the left side to bring home Hailee Moore for the game's first run. The floodgates opened in the second inning as the Jacks plated six runs on a string of clutch hits.
Moore jumpstarted the rally with a two-run triple before Shelby Shanks, Smokey, and Lauren Asia each added RBI hits to cap the frame. By the time the dust settled, Humboldt had built a commanding 7-0 lead.
Hawai'i Hilo responded with three runs in the third, but that was all the Vulcans could muster against the Humboldt pitching staff. The Jacks kept their foot on the gas, adding insurance runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to secure the lopsided victory.
Rivera shined at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Moore added a pair of hits and two RBIs of her own. Shanks and Asia also contributed multi-hit performances, and every starter in the lineup recorded at least one hit in the offensive onslaught.
IN THE CIRCLE
Smokey was stellar once again, allowing just three runs (all in the third inning) on seven hits while striking out five across six frames. Rayna Ponce came on in relief, tossing a scoreless seventh to lock down the win.
