ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball continued its winning momentum with a commanding 68-51 victory over Stanislaus State on Saturday afternoon at Lumberjack Arena. The win marks the Jacks' second consecutive triumph, improving their record to 7-15 overall and 6-10 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Sophomore forward Kyori Lloyd led the charge with a career-high 25 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting, while also grabbing 12 rebounds for a dominant double-double performance. It was her second double-double of the season. Lloyd was perfect from the free-throw line (5-for-5) and knocked down a pair of three-pointers to fuel the Jacks' offense.
"It was nice to get the two wins at home this week," said head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "Overall, I just feel the team played much better this week on both ends of the floor. I was proud of our clock management the last six minutes or so of the game tonight. We did a great job of controlling the our offensive possessions. Kyori really did a nice job tonight. She was efficient and had good balance in her game. I was proud of her effort. We need to have a good week of practice and stay focused as we hit the road for the next two weeks."
Kaiija Lesane provided a strong supporting effort with 16 points, hitting all four of her free-throw attempts and adding four rebounds. Kendall Pickford chipped in nine points, sinking three shots from beyond the arc.
Humboldt set the tone early with a 22-point first quarter, taking a six-point lead after the opening frame. Despite a cold-shooting second quarter (20%), the Jacks held strong defensively to maintain their advantage. In the second half, Humboldt's offense found its rhythm again, outscoring the Warriors 36-28 while shooting 57.1% in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Defensively, the Jacks stifled Stanislaus State (5-17, 4-12 CCAA), holding the Warriors to 38.5% shooting from the field and forcing 16 turnovers. Humboldt capitalized on those opportunities with 19 points off turnovers and dominated the glass, out-rebounding Stanislaus 43-25.
Amya Vangkham-Griffin led the visitors with 15 points off the bench, while Jadyn Patterson and Da'Myiah Lewis each added 11 points for the Warriors.
With back-to-back wins under their belt, the Jacks will look to carry their momentum into next weekend as they hit the road to take on Cal State East Bay on Thursday, February 13 at 5:30 PM.
