Lumberjacks Celebrate Seniors, Fall to Sonoma State in Season Finale

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball got off to a scorching start but couldn't sustain the momentum, falling 65-55 to Sonoma State in the season finale on Senior Day at Lumberjack Arena.

Before tipoff, the Lumberjacks honored four seniors – Andjela Pavicevic, Kaiija Lesane, Jadis Watson, and Marley Johnson – for their contributions to the program. The pregame energy carried onto the court as Humboldt jumped out to a 22-17 first-quarter lead behind efficient shooting, hitting 56.3% from the field and 60% from beyond the arc.

However, the Seawolves responded, holding the Jacks to just six points in the second quarter while putting up 17 of their own to take a 34-28 halftime lead. Sonoma State continued to control the pace in the second half, capitalizing on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to extend their advantage.

Lesane led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 10-of-21 from the field while knocking down a pair of three-pointers. Kyori Lloyd recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Johnson added nine points, connecting on three triples.

Sonoma State had a balanced attack, with Sydney Peterson (12 points) and Sienna Cherwinski (11 points) leading the charge off the bench. The Seawolves' bench outscored Humboldt's 32-3, proving to be a difference-maker in the contest.

Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks fought until the final buzzer, outscoring Sonoma State in the fourth quarter. Humboldt finished the season with a 9-19 overall record and an 8-14 mark in CCAA play, while Sonoma State improved to 15-13 (13-9 CCAA).
