LOLETA, Calif. — Behind a powerful offensive performance and another dominant outing in the circle by Gaige Garcia, the Cal Poly Humboldt softball team rolled to a 9-1 run-rule victory over Stanislaus State in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Bear River Complex.
Alyssa Ramirez and Katlyn Gifford led the Jacks (26-22, 15-18 CCAA) at the plate, combining for five hits and five RBIs. Ramirez continued her hot streak, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the fifth inning to help break the game open. Gifford added a perfect 2-for-2 day with two RBIs, a sacrifice fly, and a hit-by-pitch.
Humboldt broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with three runs and never looked back, adding on in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to close out the win by run rule. Julia Rivera and Alyssa Smokey also chipped in RBIs for the Green and Gold.
In the circle, Gaige Garcia (16-5) was steady once again, tossing six innings of four-hit ball with four strikeouts and no walks to earn the victory.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader was halted in the bottom of the first inning (HUM 1, STAN 0) due to heavy rain. The teams will resume that contest Sunday morning at 11 a.m., followed by the originally scheduled Sunday doubleheader, as Humboldt and Stanislaus State are now set to play three games in one day to conclude the regular season.
Despite the dominant win, the Jacks were officially eliminated from postseason contention on Saturday after results from around the CCAA concluded. Humboldt will look to close the year strong with the final three games on Sunday.
Cal Poly Humboldt honored seven seniors before game two in a senior ceremony: Hailey Meisenbach, Vanessa Saltos, Riley Shopp, Julia Rivera, Tessa Poirier, Alyssa Smokey, and Gaige Garcia.
