WAIPIO, Hawai'i – Cal Poly Humboldt picked up their first win of the Fall season with a commanding 2-0 victory over Chaminade in a non-conference match at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The win also marked a strong start to their Hawaii road trip, as the Lumberjacks improve to 1-1-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first 25 minutes, the Lumberjacks struck first with a goal from Robert Somerville at the 25:52 mark. Somerville was set up by Maumausolo Uiagalelei, who made a perfect pass to the forward, allowing him to find the back of the net and give Humboldt a 1-0 lead. The goal was Somerville's first of the season.
The match remained 1-0 through the second half until Humboldt was awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. Seth Uson confidently converted the penalty to extend the lead to 2-0 and secure the win for the Lumberjacks.
Chaminade struggled to break down the Humboldt defense, with goalkeeper Edwin Monterrosa recording three saves, two of which came in the first half. Humboldt's defense was solid throughout, holding the Silverswords to just 11 total shots, three of which were on target.
The Lumberjacks outshot Chaminade 9-11, with five shots on goal. Humboldt also had the edge in corner kicks, earning four compared to Chaminade's two. Despite a physical match, which saw a combined 16 fouls, the Lumberjacks stayed composed and kept Chaminade off the scoreboard.
Humboldt will next face off against Hawaii Pacific University in their second match of the Hawaii road trip on September 13, 2025, at 10:00 PM (7:00 PM HST).
