HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt suffered its first setback of the 2026 calendar year on Saturday night, falling 95-53 to No. 10-ranked Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Gymnasium. The Pioneers, who entered the night undefeated, improved to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in CCAA play, while Humboldt moved to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in conference action.
East Bay set the tone early, shooting over 60 percent from the field in the first half and building a 56-25 lead at the break. The Pioneers connected on eight three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes and never allowed the Lumberjacks to find an offensive rhythm.
Cal Poly Humboldt showed more balance in the second half, but East Bay's depth and efficiency continued to create separation. The Pioneers finished the night shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc, while holding Humboldt to 38.6 percent shooting.
Zaveion Bineyard led the Lumberjacks with 10 points and five rebounds, while Shakir Odunewu added nine points on 3-of-5 shooting. Tyriq McNeal chipped in nine points off the bench, and Raydon Thorson contributed six points and three assists. Humboldt received 26 points from its bench, but was limited to just two made three-pointers on the night.
Cal State East Bay was paced by Tyree Campbell's 14 points, while Payden White added 13 points off the bench. The Pioneers finished with 56 bench points and forced 22 Humboldt turnovers, converting them into 22 points.
Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks remain near the top of the CCAA standings and will look to bounce back quickly.
Cal Poly Humboldt returns home on Thursday for a key NorCal rivalry matchup against Chico State (6-7, 4-4 CCAA). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Lumberjack Arena.
