ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball returns to action this week for a pivotal pair of CCAA matchups against Chico State (12-2, 8-0 CCAA), hosting the Wildcats on Thursday, Jan. 15 at Lumberjack Arena before heading on the road to Art Acker Gymnasium for a rematch on the road. Thursday's home contest is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. while Saturday's road game will begin at 1 p.m.
Humboldt enters the week riding a seven-game winning streak after earning back-to-back road victories over San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay. The Lumberjacks improved to 10-4 overall and remain unbeaten at 8-0 in CCAA play, tied for first place in the conference standings alongside Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona. Humboldt's undefeated start to league play marks the program's best since the 2014 season.
LAST TIME OUT
Humboldt extended its unbeaten conference run with a 63-52 road victory at San Francisco State last Thursday. The Lumberjacks controlled the game early, shooting nearly 59 percent in the second quarter and outscoring the Gators 23-10 to build a 39-23 halftime lead. Freshman center Jordyn Smith led a balanced Humboldt effort with 12 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season, while Shade Satica and Kyori Lloyd each added 12 points. Humboldt forced 20 turnovers, scored 18 points off miscues, and dominated the paint with 34 points to secure the road win.
The Lumberjacks followed with a dominant 93-68 victory at Cal State East Bay on Friday night, pushing their winning streak to seven games, the program's longest since February of 2019. Smith anchored the interior with her eighth double-double of the season, finishing with a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds while adding three blocks and two steals. Shade Satica continued her all-around play with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and six steals, as Humboldt forced 24 turnovers and converted them into 20 points. The Lumberjacks shot 51.5 percent from the field, scored 48 points in the paint, and received 36 points off the bench to pull away in the second half.
CCAA GAME OF THE WEEK
Chico State (12-2, 8-0 CCAA) visits Lumberjack Arena on Thursday for a marquee matchup between two unbeaten conference foes, with first place in the CCAA standings on the line. The Wildcats enter the week on a 11-game winning streak of their own and tied with Humboldt atop the league. In their last three matchups, the Wildcats have beaten their opponents by 18 or more, proving their two-way dominance on the floor. They will present a significant test for the Lumberjacks' explosive offensive attack as of late.
The series shifts to Chico on Saturday at Art Acker Gymnasium, where Humboldt will look to complete a sweep and remain perfect in conference play. The Lumberjacks will aim to lean on their depth, interior presence, and defensive intensity as they face one of the conference's top contenders on the road.
