Toro Defense Denies Late Comeback as Humboldt Drops Road Battle

CARSON, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball battled to the final horn Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 51–49 road loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills inside the Torodome.

The Lumberjacks struggled to find an offensive rhythm early and left points on the board at the charity stripe, finishing 8-for-16 at the free throw line. Despite the challenges, Humboldt stayed within striking distance throughout and had multiple opportunities in the final seconds to tie the game and force overtime. Each time, the Toro defense came up with the stop to escape with a narrow win on its home floor.

Humboldt (12–8, 10–4 CCAA) was led by Sienna Cherwinski, who poured in a team-high 12 points while playing all 40 minutes. Shade Satica added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Jordyn Smith filled the stat sheet with nine points, a game-high 13 rebounds, and six blocks.

After trailing 31–22 at halftime, the Jacks chipped away in the second half, holding Dominguez Hills to just seven points in the third quarter. Humboldt closed within two late in the fourth, but could not convert on its final possessions as the Toros held on for the 51–49 decision.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (6–13, 6–8 CCAA) was paced by Kylee Edgar's game-high 18 points.

Despite the setback, Cal Poly Humboldt remains firmly in the playoff picture, currently sitting fourth in the CCAA standings as the regular season enters its final stretch.

Cal Poly Humboldt continues CCAA road play in the Central Valley next week, opening the trip at UC Merced (7–14, 4–10 CCAA) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., before closing the swing at Stanislaus State (2–15, 1–13 CCAA) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
