Humboldt Bounces Back with Road Win at UC Merced

MERCED, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt responded in a big way on Thursday night, bouncing back with a 77–66 road victory over UC Merced on Greg and Cathie Hostetler Court. With the win, the Lumberjacks improve to 13–8 overall and 11–4 in CCAA play, now tied for third place with Chico State and just one game back of second-place Cal State LA.

Humboldt set the tone early and never trailed for long, shooting nearly 47 percent from the field while knocking down 12 three-pointers. The Jacks outscored the Bobcats 22–13 in the third quarter to seize control and held UC Merced to just 18.8 percent shooting in the frame.

Jada Barnes delivered a standout performance, pouring in a career-high 22 points to lead all scorers for Humboldt. Barnes went 7-of-15 from the field, connected on three triples, and added five free throws to pace the Humboldt offense.

Riley Sanz controlled the glass all night, grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points and two steals. Her presence inside helped Humboldt win the rebounding battle, 38–30.

Jordyn Smith was nearly unstoppable offensively, scoring 18 points on an efficient 9-of-14 shooting night while adding six rebounds. Sienna Cherwinski provided a major boost from beyond the arc, drilling five three-pointers and finishing with 15 points while playing all 40 minutes.

Shade Satica filled the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals, helping anchor the Lumberjacks on both ends of the floor.

UC Merced was led by Sarina Nagra's 24 points, but Humboldt's defense tightened after halftime, holding the Bobcats to just 26 points over the final two quarters.

The Lumberjacks will look to close out their four-game road trip on a high note this Saturday, traveling to Stanislaus State for a 1 p.m. tip-off at Fitzpatrick Arena.
