Lumberjacks Come Up Short in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball opened its Southern California road trip with a three-set loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday evening inside Coussoulis Arena.

The Lumberjacks fell by set scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-19, moving to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in CCAA play.

Humboldt produced its strongest offensive performance in the opening set, recording 12 kills with three errors on 25 attacks for a .360 hitting percentage. The Lumberjacks trailed 22-14 before scoring three consecutive points behind a block from Phoebe Bland and back-to-back kills from Addison Bookstaber and Bland.

Bookstaber added two more kills during the closing stretch, but Cal State San Bernardino secured the frame 25-20.

The Lumberjacks struggled to establish their offense in the second set. Cal State San Bernardino used an early run to build a 9-2 advantage before extending the margin and taking the frame 25-9.

Humboldt continued battling in the third set and pulled within five at 18-13. Graysen Trupp recorded four kills during the second half of the frame, while Bookstaber added three. The Lumberjacks fought off one match point before the Coyotes closed the set 25-19.

Trupp led Humboldt with seven kills, while Avary Spoja added six and hit .267. Bookstaber finished with five kills on 11 attacks for a team-best .364 hitting percentage.

Rahni Greene contributed four kills and two block assists. Bland recorded a solo block and one block assist, while Elizabeth Jade Andrade led the back row with nine digs and four assists.

Claire Crawford distributed a team-high 11 assists, while Brielle Wilson added 10 assists and five digs. Kendall Fenstermacher finished with six digs.

Humboldt recorded 29 kills, 34 digs and four total blocks while hitting .144 for the match.

UP NEXT

The Lumberjacks will conclude their road trip Saturday, Oct. 3, against Cal State San Marcos. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside The Sports Center.
