LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Cal Poly Humboldt men's wrestling team returns to competition Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Mountaineer Open, hosted by Eastern Oregon University at Quinn Coliseum.
The all-day individual tournament will mark Humboldt's first open competition of the season after the Lumberjacks began their 2026-27 campaign with three dual victories at the Redwood Duals.
LAST TIME OUT
Humboldt opened the season with victories over Southwestern Oregon Community College, Sierra College and host College of the Redwoods to capture the Redwood Duals team title.
The Lumberjacks received contributions throughout their lineup while completing an undefeated day in the first competition under head coach
Anthony Mancini.
Daniel Barnes delivered a standout performance in the upper weights and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Upperweight Wrestler. Barnes finished the event unbeaten and helped Humboldt complete its three-dual sweep.
The successful opening weekend moved the Lumberjacks to 3-0 in dual competition and provided Humboldt's returners and newcomers with their first opportunities on the mat this season.
MOUNTAINEER OPEN
Sunday's tournament will shift Humboldt from dual competition to an individual bracket format.
The Mountaineer Open will bring together wrestlers from programs across the West and provide the Lumberjacks with an early opportunity to gain tournament experience. Competition will take place across multiple weight classes, with wrestlers advancing through championship and consolation brackets.
The tournament awards its top finishers in each weight class and will give Humboldt's lineup an opportunity to compete in multiple matches during the all-day event.
The Lumberjacks enter the weekend looking to build upon their performance at the Redwood Duals as the program continues its third season since returning to NCAA competition.
