HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Cal Poly Humboldt's offense erupted for 18 runs in the opener before Hawai'i Pacific answered in game two as the Lumberjacks earned a split on Friday afternoon at Sand Island.
Humboldt (4-8) claimed game one in dominant fashion, 18-2, before falling 5-4 in the nightcap to Hawai'i Pacific (2-6).
Game One – Humboldt 18, Hawai'i Pacific 2 (5 Inn.)
The Lumberjack bats wasted no time, plating six runs in the opening inning and never looking back in the five-inning run-rule victory.
Humboldt tallied 18 runs on 18 hits, with seven different players recording at least one hit and five finishing with multi-hit performances.
Marissa Brody delivered one of the top offensive performances of the young season, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and six RBI. Brody drove in two runs in the first inning, added another RBI double in the second, and capped a five-run third with a two-run double to center.
Katlyn Gifford was equally impactful at the top of the order, finishing 3-for-3 with four runs scored, two RBI, and a walk. Shelby Shanks added two hits and three RBI, including a two-run double in the first that ignited the scoring surge.
Alyssa Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Rylee Banks drove in two runs on a 2-for-4 afternoon. Alexa Garcia contributed two hits, scored twice, and swiped two bases. Matea Muraoka chipped in with a hit, scored twice, and added an RBI, while also guiding the pitching staff behind the plate.
The Jacks scored in four consecutive innings, highlighted by five runs in both the third and fourth frames. Humboldt drew five walks and struck out just once in the contest.
In the circle, Lily Fournier (2-4) earned the win, tossing 4.2 innings and striking out seven without issuing a walk. She allowed just two runs on seven hits. Mason Hatton recorded the final out to secure the run-rule victory.
Game Two – Hawai'i Pacific 5, Humboldt 4
The nightcap featured a tighter battle, with the Sharks capitalizing on a four-run middle stretch to hold off the Lumberjacks.
Brody continued her strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. She delivered a two-run double in the third inning to give Humboldt an early 2-0 lead and later added a sacrifice fly in the seventh to bring the Jacks within a run.
Gifford collected two more hits in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Banks added a 2-for-3 effort with an RBI single in the sixth, while Hailee Moore scored twice and added a hit.
Hawai'i Pacific answered Humboldt's third-inning runs with one in the bottom half and then pushed across three runs in the fourth to take control. The Sharks added an insurance run in the sixth, which proved pivotal down the stretch.
Ariana Bottel (1-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs over 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. Hatton and Siona Halwani combined for the final 2.2 innings, with Halwani tossing a scoreless frame.
Humboldt threatened late, trimming the deficit to one in the seventh, but Hawai'i Pacific's Oseguera closed out the complete-game effort.

The Lumberjacks' offense produced 27 hits across the doubleheader, highlighted by Brody's six-hit, nine-RBI day and Gifford's five total hits. Humboldt will look to build on its offensive momentum as they take on Chaminade (0-7) in a doubleheader on Saturday at Sand Island.
