ARCATA, Calif. — The Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Thursday evening, blitzing Cal State East Bay 101-63 in CCAA action at Lumberjack Arena.
With the win, the Lumberjacks improve to 15-8 overall and 13-4 in conference play, while the Pioneers fall to 9-15 overall and 8-9 in the CCAA.
Humboldt had contributions across the board, placing six players in double figures and turning relentless defense into offense all night. The 'Jacks forced 19 turnovers and converted them into 38 points, helping fuel their first 100-point performance of the season.
After the game was tied once early, Humboldt seized control with a dominant opening quarter. The 'Jacks shot 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the field and knocked down 10-of-11 free throws in the first 10 minutes to build a 34-18 advantage. The lead ballooned to 53-38 at halftime before Humboldt slammed the door in the third, holding East Bay to just 2-of-12 shooting (16.7 percent) in the period.
The Green and Gold never looked back, pouring in 26 fourth-quarter points to eclipse the century mark.
Shade Satica turned in a career night, scoring a career-high 22 points while tying her career high with eight steals and dishing out a career-best seven assists. She added five rebounds in a stat-stuffing 37-minute effort and went a perfect 11-for-11 at the free throw line.
Jordyn Smith recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds, dominating the glass with nine offensive boards. She also swatted five shots to anchor Humboldt's interior defense.
Sienna Cherwinski added 15 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting performance, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Riley Sanz filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, and five steals, while Kya Kanoho chipped in 12 points off the bench.
Leamsi Acuna provided a spark from deep, finishing with 11 points and knocking down 3-of-4 from three-point range as Humboldt shot 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from beyond the arc as a team.
The Lumberjacks controlled the paint (46-32), won the rebounding battle 30-29, and turned up the defensive pressure with 19 steals. Humboldt also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, outscoring East Bay 25-12 in second-chance points.
Cal Poly Humboldt returns to the court Saturday afternoon, hosting San Francisco State (5-18, 3-14 CCAA) at 1 p.m. inside Lumberjack Arena. With a win on Saturday, the 'Jacks will clinch a spot in the CCAA Tournament for the first time since 2020.
