Smith’s Double-Double Powers Humboldt Past Stanislaus

TURLOCK, Calif. — Behind a dominant double-double performance from Jordyn Smith, the Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team closed its four-game road trip in style with a 72-61 victory over Stanislaus State on Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Arena.

The win secured a weekend sweep for the Jacks and completed a season sweep of the Warriors, improving Humboldt to 14-8 overall and 12-4 in CCAA play.

After a tightly contested first half that featured eight ties and 11 lead changes, Cal Poly Humboldt took full control after the break. The Jacks outscored Stanislaus State 23-15 in the third quarter and never relinquished the lead down the stretch, pulling away with balanced scoring, strong interior play, and timely defensive stops.

Smith delivered one of her strongest performances of the season, tying her career high with 24 points while hauling in 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the year. The freshman center was a force for all 40 minutes, shooting 10-for-17 from the floor and anchoring a Humboldt effort that outscored the Warriors 42-36 in the paint.

Sienna Cherwinski and Shade Satica each added 14 points to give the Jacks three players in double figures. Cherwinski knocked down five field goals, including a three-pointer, while Satica was efficient on both ends, finishing 5-of-9 from the field with seven rebounds and four steals.

Jada Barnes continued her strong road trip with 13 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the floor and adding three assists. Humboldt finished the game shooting 43.5 percent overall and forced 16 Warrior turnovers, converting them into 17 points.

Despite trailing 32-30 at halftime, the Jacks quickly shifted momentum in the third quarter with a 10-2 run, using defensive pressure and second-chance opportunities to build separation. Humboldt held Stanislaus State to 26.7 percent shooting in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Cal Poly Humboldt will return home next week to Lumberjack Arena, as the Jacks continue their push in the CCAA standings. Thursday at 5:30 PM, Humboldt will host Cal State East Bay and on Saturday, San Francisco State comes to town at 1:00 PM.
