Humboldt Strikes First in 1-1 Draw at Western Oregon

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer team battled Western Oregon to a 1-1 draw Thursday afternoon at WOU Soccer Field. Azis Camerrer scored his first goal as a Lumberjack and Alvaro Nieves made six saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless opening half, Humboldt broke through in the 56th minute. De Jon Watson and Dominic Calero combined to set up Camerrer, who put the Lumberjacks ahead 1-0.

The advantage held until the 87th minute, when Western Oregon's Archie Dhima converted a penalty kick to level the match.

Western Oregon finished with an 18-4 advantage in shots and placed seven attempts on target. The Wolves also earned seven corner kicks compared to two for the Lumberjacks.

Nieves kept Humboldt in front throughout the afternoon, making four saves during the first half and two more after the break. The Jacks limited Western Oregon to one goal despite the Wolves producing 10 second-half shots.

Humboldt generated all four of its attempts after halftime and placed three on target. Jai Sternhall and Dominic De La Torre joined Camerrer with shots on goal.

The result moves Humboldt to 1-2-2 on the season.

UP NEXT

The Lumberjacks will conclude their Pacific Northwest trip Saturday, Sept. 12, when they face Saint Martin's at 11 a.m. at Saints Field in Lacey, Wash.
