MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. - The Cal Poly Humboldt men's cross country team used a deep performance to win the Jim Hunt Invitational Saturday morning at Beau Pre Golf Club.

The men's 8K saw Nicholas Brichta at the front, crossing the finish line in 24:42.1, winning the race by more than a minute. The Lumberjacks placed four runners inside the top 10 and finished with 31 points to claim the team championship.

Jonah Grubbs was Humboldt's next finisher, placing third overall in 25:50.5. Trevor Stewart followed in fifth and recorded a personal-best time of 25:55.5.

Nicholas Woolery added a 10th-place finish in 26:13.2, while Jacob Christopher completed Humboldt's scoring five by placing 12th in 26:39.0.

The Lumberjacks finished 21 points ahead of runner-up Oregon Tech, who totaled 52 points. Southwestern Oregon Community College placed third with 76 points, narrowly finishing ahead of Willamette's 78.

Humboldt's depth continued beyond its scoring group. Kees Van Der Meer placed 13th in 26:40.6, and Daniel Shaver followed in 14th with a time of 26:41.0.

Jared Hayes and freshman Tomas Rey Avila finished 15th and 16th, respectively, while Ryan Giglio, Kaleb Traficante and RJ Kennedy helped give Humboldt 12 of the first 20 finishers.

The victory gave the Lumberjacks a strong start to their 2026 campaign after placing second at the Jim Hunt Invitational last season.

The Lumberjacks will return to competition Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Mike Johnson Classic at Ash Creek Preserve in Monmouth, Oregon.
