Chipp’s Late Equalizer Lifts Humboldt to 2-2 Draw with Northwest Nazarene

ATHERTON, Calif. - Dominik Chipp scored an equalizer in the 85th minute as the Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer team rallied twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Northwest Nazarene on Thursday afternoon at Wunderlich Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Northwest Nazarene struck first in the 28th minute when Alex Barragan scored off an assist from Caleb Putney, sending the Nighthawks into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The Lumberjacks responded shortly after the break. Shota Lam found the back of the net in the 54th minute to pull Humboldt even at 1-1. The goal was Lam's first of the season after he recorded an assist in each of the Lumberjacks' opening two matches.

Northwest Nazarene regained the lead just over three minutes later when Putney converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute.

Humboldt continued to battle and produced another equalizer with just over five minutes remaining. Jai Sternhall set up Chipp, who scored in the 85th minute to bring the Lumberjacks level at 2-2. The goal and assist were the first of the season for Chipp and Sternhall.

The Jacks generated eight of their 11 shots during the second half while placing five attempts on target for the match. Northwest Nazarene finished with 20 shots, including 10 on goal, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Alvaro Nieves played all 90 minutes in goal for Humboldt and recorded six saves. His performance helped the Lumberjacks remain unbeaten over their last two matches.

The draw moved Humboldt to 1-1-1 on the season, while Northwest Nazarene recorded its third consecutive tie and moved to 0-0-3.
