Lumberjacks home to open CCAA's second season

ARCATA – After another trying week on the road, the Humboldt State volleyball team returns home to begin the second round of California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Friday and Saturday nights feature the Jacks hosting Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State, respectively, with both matches set for 7 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena.

Lumberjack Notes:
The Lumberjacks continued to struggle, dropping their last two matches to Sonoma State and UC San Diego, two of the top three teams in CCAA standings. “We started getting our rhythm back against UCSD in the last two sets and we want to keep that rhythm going,” said Humboldt State head volleyball coach Sue Woodstra. The Jacks hold a 6-11 overall record and a 4-6 mark in CCAA play. …Humboldt State moved up one notch in conference statistics, claiming the No. 2 spot in blocking with 137.5 (2.29 per set), while holding its opponents to 83.5 total blocks. Toni Kroeker averages 1.08 blocks per set to rank third in the CCAA among individuals. Dani Nelson is ranked fifth in the CCAA, averaging 4.20 digs per set, while Liz Shannon and Lynsey Adams both rank ninth in the CCAA, averaging 6.29 digs per set and 2.90 kills per set, respectively. Adams also currently leads the team in kills,averaging 2.83 per set, followed closely behind by Joaliann Arzadon with 2.33 per set.

Opponents Notes:  Cal State Stanislaus currently holds a 4-16 overall record and an 1-9 mark in the CCAA. Last weekend the Warriors continued their four-match losing streak, falling in three sets to Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, and losing in four sets to San Francisco State on Saturday. For the Warriors' individual categories, Jen Gee is leading the team in kills with an average of 2.89 kills per set, Nicki Brown leads the team in assists with 8.33 per set and Amanda Pielstick leads the team in digs with 2.76 digs per set… Chico State is currently on a five-match winning streak, defeating its last two opponents, UC San Diego in five sets, and San Francisco State in three. The Wildcats are in a four-way tie with Cal State L.A., Sonoma State, and Cal Poly Pomona for the No. 3 spot in the CCAA standings. The Wildcats rank second in assists, third in digs, and fourth in blocking in the CCAA. …Chico State currently holds a 14-6 overall record and 7-3 mark in the CCAA. … Leading the Wildcats is Lindsay Macias, who averages 2.86 kills and 2.91 digs per set.

Head to Head: Humboldt State holds a 43-10 all-time match record over Cal State Stanislaus. During the teams' last meeting this season the Lumberjacks defeated the Warriors in four sets. The Lumberjacks hold a 20-33 all-time match record against Chico State. Previously this season the Wildcats swept the Lumberjacks in three.
