CARSON –
Joliann Arzadon recorded a triple-double as she posted a team-high 12 kills and 17 assists, while tallying 13 digs, but it wasn't enough as Cal State Dominguez Hills rallied to defeat the Humboldt State volleyball team, 4-1,
Saturday.
The Lumberjacks now post a 7-13 overall record and are 5-9 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Toros recorded its first CCAA win to improve to 1-13 in conference and a 2-20 overall mark.
Lynsey Adams contributed a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, while
Dani Nelson and
Mallory Briney added 16 and 10 digs, respectively.
Liz Shannon followed Arzadon with 12 assists on the night.
Marissa Anderson and Ashley Clarks' .300 (12 kills) and .283 hitting percentage (18 kills) paced the way for CSU Dominguez Hills. Cassidy Magnum and Rebekah Wolfgramm's 18 assist apiece were a team-high for the Toros, while Angela Ho led three players in double-digit digs with 16.
To start off the night, the Toros took an early 5-1 lead to start set one before the Lumberjacks came within hopes of a comeback at 14-13 and then again at 19-19. CSU Dominguez Hills answered back tallying five of the next eight points by taking advantage of three Humboldt State errors, while registering two kills from Ashley Clark to help take the set 28-26.
Set two showed three early ties, last one at 10-10, before HSU registered three consecutive points on an Arzadon kill and two bad sets on the Toros. CSU Dominguez Hills continued to fight hard by keeping the Lumberjacks at no more than a two-point lead, until a Toro attacking error brought the score to 24-21. A big block by
Mallory Briney and
Danielle Wells recorded the Jacks' lone set with a 25-21 final score.
Two lead changes and six ties led to a tense 25-23 third set. Humboldt State took its lone lead at 20-19 after a CSU Dominguez Hills service error. A kill and service ace by Briney and a Toro attacking error gave the Jacks' hope at 23-20, but a five-point run for CSU Dominguez Hills finished the set.
CSU Dominguez Hills .206 hitting percentage helped take set four 25-20, as another close set took place. The Toros' five-point run at 10-10 secured its victory, as they never let up their lead.
The Lumberjacks continue CCAA competition as they travel to the bay area to face San Francisco State
Friday and then on to Seaside to take on Cal State Monterey Bay
Saturday. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
