Lynsey Adams' and
Liz Shannon's double-doubles helped the Humboldt State volleyball team conclude its road portion of California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a 3-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay,
Saturday.
The Lumberjacks now post a 9-14 overall record and are 7-9 in CCAA play, while the Otters record a 7-20 overall and a 3-13 CCAA mark.
"I think we played a lot steadier and stronger than we did last night," Humboldt State head volleyball coach Sue Woodstra said."I think we played very well in all the aspects of the game."
Adams paced the Jacks with 11 kills and contributed 10 digs, as Shannon posted 18 assists and tied
Dani Nelson for a team-high 11 digs.
Toni Kroeker achieved a team-high .385 hitting percentage and tied teammate
Joliann Arzadon with seven kills.
Dana Grimm registered a double-double with 19 assists and 14 digs for the Otters, while Rheann Fall knocked down a team-high seven kills.
Set one showed six ties and two lead changes before HSU went on a 10-point run behind Shannon's serve to claim a 24-12 lead. An attacking error on the Otters ended the set, 25-14.
The Lumberjacks took an early lead in set two by scoring the first four points off of three attacking errors and a kill by
Mallory Briney. The Otters were able to close the Jacks' lead at 14-13, before the three-point surge gave the Jacks a comfortable lead on the way to a 25-21 win.
HSU opened set three with two four-point surges for a 9-4. Behind Nelson's serve, the Jacks registered their third four-point run for a 23-14 score before a kill by Adams and an attacking error on the Otters ended the set, 25-15.
"In the first set we were very aware of what we needed to do," Woodstra said. "We let up in the second but were able to come back very strong in the third."
The Lumberjacks return to Lumberjack Arena
for their final two weekends of competition, starting with Friday's match against Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m.
