ARCATA – In a physical game that saw 47 fouls and four cards issued, the Humboldt State men's soccer tied Cal State Monterey Bay 2-2 in double overtime Friday night.
 
With the tie, the Jacks recordc their first point in conference play and are now 3-1-2 overall and 0-1-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
 
“Overall, I'm not happy about this result,” said Humboldt State head men's soccer coach Andy Cumbo. “It was a challenging environment to play in and tough for us to get a rhythm going.”
 
The Otters struck first just six minutes into the game when Juan Murillo headed in a Grant Robson corner. However, the Jacks answered back when E.J. Schneekluth scored his first collegiate goal with a beautiful left-footed shot to beat the Otters goalkeeper at the far post.
Sophomore Josh Suggs put the Jacks ahead 2-1 when he took a pass from Roland Demombynes and slammed the ball into the back of the net. HSU goalkeeper Drew Ryan was credited with the other assist.


The Murillo-Robson connection worked again to tie the game at two, this time with Murillo's header coming off of free kick by Robson.


The Jacks finished the game with 24 shots, doubling the Otters' total.


“We didn't do at all well tonight finishing our opportunities and being defensively organized,” said Cumbo. “We played the ball in the air too often. When we put the ball on the ground and played a little bit we were effective.”


The Jacks return to action in the Redwood Bowl Sunday when they face San Francisco State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
