CCAA matches continue at home for HSU

ARCATA – Humboldt State's volleyball team concludes its four-game homestand with two California Collegiate Athletic Association matches this weekend. On Friday night the Jacks take on Cal State Monterey Bay and on Saturday they host San Francisco State University. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena.

Lumberjack Notes: The Lumberjacks are currently on a three-match winning streak, including last week's two conference wins at home. HSU swept Cal State Dominquez Hills in three sets and upset nationally ranked No. 15 Cal State L.A. in four sets. The Lumberjacks improved their overall record to 5-6 and they are 3-1 in CCAA competition. They are tied for fourth in the league standings, one half game behind leaders Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly Pomona and Sonoma State, all of whom possess 4-0 league marks. …Lynsey Adams paced the team in kills again Friday and Saturday, contributing to her team-leading average of  2.88 kills per match. …Jo Arzadon's impressive weekend, which featured her third straight double-double performance in kills and assists, earned the sophomore Molton CCAA Player of the Week honors. Arzadon is the first HSU player to be selected for the distinction during HSU's two plus years in the CCAA. …Humboldt State is among the best blocking and serving teams in the CCAA this fall, ranking No. 2 in the former category and No. 3 among league schools in the latter. The Jacks are averaging 2.22 blocks per set and 1.95 service aces.
 
Opponent Notes: Cal State Monterey Bay currently holds a 4-9 overall record and a 0-4 CCAA mark. Last weekend the Otters defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 3-2, but fell short to UC San Diego, 0-3. … Freshman outside hitter Rheann Fall leads the Otters with 3.00 kills per set, while junior outside hitter Alisha Thomas follows shortly behind, averaging 2.00 kills per set. Sophomore setter Dana Grimm leads her team in assists with an average of 8.21 per set. …San Francisco State, which resurrected its volleyball program this year following a four-year hiatus,  is currently 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA. The Gators were recently defeated by UC San Diego, 0-3. …Leading the Gators in kills is junior outside hitter Beth Perkins, who averages 3.04 per set. Topping the team in digs is freshman libero Christina Johnson, who averages 4.35 per set, while freshman setter Mary Maiocco paces the Gators' with a 7.65 assists per set average.
 
Head to Head: Humboldt State holds a 1-3 record against Cal State Monterey Bay. During the team's last meeting, the Lumberjacks defeated the Otters 2-3. …The Lumberjacks hold a 17-32 all-time match record against San Francisco State. The Gators defeated the Lumberjacks in three straight in the teams' last meeting, played in 2003.
