Lumberjacks journey south as CCAA matches continue

ARCATA –  Humboldt State continues California Collegiate Athletic Association play as the Jacks hit the road following consecutive weeks of conference competition at home. The Jacks travel to San Bernardino to face the No. 2 team in the CCAA standings, Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, and then travel to Pomona, Saturday to take on Cal Poly Pomona. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m.

Lumberjack Notes: The Lumberjacks split the weekend with a 3-0 victory against Cal State Monterey Bay before falling in three to San Francisco State. HSU now holds a 6-7 overall record and is 4-2 in CCAA play. The Jacks are currently tied with Cal Poly Pomona for fourth place in conference. … Joliann Arzadon has been impressive in September, achieving double figures in kills, assists and digs for the weekend's matches combined during the past three conference weekends. …Lynsey Adams continues to lead the Jacks with 137 kills, while Danielle Wells dominates with a .250 hitting percentage (79 kills). Liz Shannon and Arzadon both guide the team with 18 service aces, while contributing 326 and 93 assists, respectively.  …On the defensive side a strong presence comes from Dani Nelson, who leads the team with 200 digs. Toni Kroeker controls the net with 50 blocks (11 solo, 39 assisted), while Wells follows closely behind with 42 total blocks, leading the team with 12 solo. As a team, HSU has been dominating the net,  out-blocking its opponents 101 to 67.5.
 
Opponent Notes: The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes continue to roll through their season, holding a 13-1 overall record and 5-1 CCAA mark on the season. They opened last weekend's play with a loss to nationally ranked No. 16 UC San Diego in five sets to end an undefeated 12-match winning streak. The Coyotes bounced back in a non-conference match-up against Cal Baptist, earning a 3-1 win. …Sophomore outside hitter Jane Chafet is the team's top hitter, averaging .462 kills per set. Chafet posted a career-high of 22 kills during the team's last victory, where the Coyotes posted a .391 hitting percentage. Following behind is senior right side hitter Jessica Granados averaging .321 kills per set. ……Cal Poly Pomona broke its four-match winning streak this past weekend falling in four sets to Cal State San Bernardino and then fought hard with UC San Diego, but ultimately fell in five sets. … CPP leads the conference in blocking with a 2.54 blocks per set average, followed closely behind by Cal State L.A. (2.30) and Humboldt State (2.15). “Pomona is a strong blocking team defensively, which will challenge our hitters,” said Humboldt State head volleyball coach Sue Woodstra. “We need to pass the ball and find a variety of hitting options”.
 
Head to Head: Humboldt State holds 3-5 all-time match record against Cal State San Bernardino. During the teams' last meeting the Lumberjacks fell short to the Coyotes, 0-3. …The Lumberjacks hold a 1-9 overall record against Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos defeated the Jacks in three during the last match-up.
