LOS ANGELES — Humboldt State managed a mere .095 hitting percentage while Cal State Los Angeles blasted at a .348 clip in taking a 25-10, 25-17, 25-21 victory in a California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball match Saturday.

The loss drops HSU to 7-14 overall and 3-10 in CCAA action while Cal State Los Angeles improved to 15-6 in all matches and 11-3 in league.

Humboldt State's attack was lacking, with only 25 kills to 52 put down by the Golden Eagles. Oceana had five to lead the Jacks, and Allison Drobish had four while bucking the trend by finishing with no attack errors.

"Cal State LA played well, and was very efficient," HSU head coach Sue Woodstra said. "We fought hard, but they were too much for us.

Cal State Los Angeles spread the wealth, Gabriela Bulawczyk topping her team with 14 kills while Marquis Mora had 13 and Mary Laupepa added 10.

The Lumberjacks outblocked their opponents, 12-9, led by Danielle Wells' four block assists. Wells became the HSU all-time record holder in career blocks during the weekend, adding seven to now total 349 as her senior year continues.

Humboldt State returns to Arcata this week to begin a five-match homestand. The Lumberjacks take on Sonoma State at 7 p.m. Wednesday, then face San Francisco State on Friday and Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
