CHICO - The Humboldt State softball team took day one of its four-game series with Chico State with 6-3 and 7-0 wins due to numerous Wildcat errors in California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Monday.
The Lumberjacks improved their record to 7-3 in league play and 14-4 overall, while the Wildcats dropped to 5-16 overall and 3-11 in the CCAA.
Nikki Ketteringham started game one off on the right foot singling to left field and then was followed by
Lindsay Warren who reached on a fielder's choice, while Ketteringham advanced to second on a muffed throw by the second baseman. Next up to bat was
Natalie Galletly who doubled to right center to drive in both runners.
The Jacks recorded another multi-run inning in the sixth to secure their victory when
Geneva Perrine hit a three-run homer. Pinch runner
Megan Green scored HSU's sixth run in the fourth from an error by the catcher.
Chico State recorded its three runs in single run innings from a sacrifice fly in the fourth, a RBI single to left field in the fifth and a ground out RBI in the seventh.
Gracie Perez (5-2) picked up the win, giving up one earned run and striking out four batters in five innings.
Jenna Anderson came in on relief striking out one and giving up the only other earned run.
Chico State's Lauren Walker (2-7) registered the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings, striking out two batters and giving up the team's three earned runs. Christina Wieck also came in on relief to finish the game in the sixth.
Game two started off in similar fashion as the Jacks got on the board first in the first innings when Perrine's single to drove in Ketteringham. Ketteringham singled to center field to get on base.
Galletly kicked off the Jacks first three-run inning in the third doubling to left field to drive in
Francesca West.
Marissa Slattery followed doubling to right center to switch places with Galletly.
Felicia Viveiros finished the rally with a RBI single to third base.
The Wildcats saw a chance to get on the board with three hits in the fourth. With the bases loaded from back-to-back-to-back singles and one out on the board, Charlotte Honciano hit into a double play,
Nichole Parada to Slattery to Galletly, to cut the team's hopes short.
Perrine's double RBI single to center field kicked-off the Jacks final three-run inning. Gilbert finished the inning's scoring driving in Viveiros by singling through the right side.
Parada (5-1) collected the win, while Jessica McDermott (2-9) picked up the loss.
The Jacks recorded 13 runs off of 25 hits on the day, while the Wildcats collected three runs on 17 hits.
HSU finishes its series with CSUC tomorrow with a 11 a.m. start.
