Boxscore
The Lumberjacks' loss drops them to 0-1 early for league play while the Seawolves advance to 1-0. HSU is now 1-2 overall and SSU improved to 4-0.
Humboldt was led by guard
Jenna Hamilton with 16 points.  This is the second game in a row that Hamilton has totaled more than 15 points.
Forward Aly Conway was a key component in the Seawolves' victory.  Conway added 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from the foul line.
Humboldt came out slow from the beginning and never took control of the lead after the first two minutes of the game, only tying it twice.  Humboldt trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half.
Lumberjacks' head coach
Joddie Gleason was disappointed with the play from her team, early.  "It is tough to give them a 10- or 12-point cushion," Gleason said.  "We have more of a defensive problem than anything.  We have a lack of intensity and lack of energy on that end of the court," she added.
"We need to come out harder and fight for it," said Hamilton in regards to the early minutes of the game.
Gleason saw hope for the Jacks in the last few minutes of play after what seemed like several opportunities.  "We executed better at the end of the game but just didn't hit them," Gleason said.
"We need to bring it physically and mentally on the road," Gleason said in regards to her thoughts on next week's games.
The Jacks will travel to Chico on Friday to face off against the Wildcats who start off the season strong at 2-0. They'll continue on the road for another league game, facing Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.
