SEASIDE – Unable to claim a single set, Humboldt State's volleyball nightmare continued Saturday in a 3-0 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay. Pressed to five sets when the same teams met in Arcata earlier this year, the Otters dispatched the Lumberjacks with little trouble this time with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-14 victory.

With the loss, Humboldt State fall to 1-23 overall and 1-19 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. CS Monterey Bay improved its record to 15-8 overall and 12-8 in conference.
Rheann Fall was an unstoppable force for the Otters, putting away 20 kills with only a single attack error for a .463 hitting percentage. As a team, the Otters hit at a .340 clip while Humboldt State managed only .077.
Defensively, CS Monterey Bay had three players in double figures for digs. Fall led with 13, Dionna Lucas added 12 and Monique Sena had 11.
The Otters also won the battle at the net, recording seven team blocks to three by the Lumberjacks. Lauren Shacklock led the way with three block assists.
Humboldt State's numbers included an outstanding effort by
Oceana Matsubu, who put down 13 kills and had seven digs for the Jacks.
Brooke Ferguson had 19 digs, while
Channel Washington contributed eight kills and nine digs.
HSU returns home to finish its season with a pair of matches this week. On Thursday, the Jacks face Cal State Dominguez Hills, and on Saturday they battle Cal State L.A. Both matches are scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve in Lumberjack Arena.
