ARCATA — Community members opened their pockets again in support of Humboldt State Athletics on Saturday, helping the Lumberjacks' program net more than $174,000 for student-athletes' scholarships at its 25th annual Celebrity Dinner and Sports Auction.
The event featured former San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig, who addressed the gathering along with sports journalist Matt Maiocco, co-author of Craig's autobiography "Tales from the San Francisco 49ers' Sidelines."
Top items up for bid included a Chrysler Sebring convertible, which went for $10,000. Straight donations going directly to the scholarship fund totaled more than $60,000. Total proceeds easily eclipsed last year's net of $150,000.
