Women's basketball offense on the upswing

Lisa Petty had 18 points and 14 rebounds against Stanislaus, her fifth double-double of the season.
ARCATA – Offensive production has been on the upswing for the Humboldt State women's basketball team, and that trend will be tested when Humboldt State travels to UC San Diego (11-3 CCAA, 13-8), on Friday and to Cal St. San Bernardino (5-9 CCAA, 7-11) on Saturday in California Collegiate Athletic Association action. Both games tip off at 5:30 p.m.

The Jacks have scored at least 66 points in each of their last five games. In each of the five games prior to that the team did not score over 54 points.

“We're clicking better, “ said HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason. “Part of it is working together to take better shots, and part of it is simply hitting shots that we weren't hitting for awhile.”

Four players scored at least 18 points in the 80-67 win over Stanislaus, including career highs for junior Elle Anderson (21) and freshman Tiana Maxwell (18).

More Comments from Head Coach Joddie Gleason
“We always have battles with UC San Diego, especially in the last five years. Last month when we played them, they hit everything in the second half. Feder and Osga are players who can score in bunches. We need to make them take tough shots. They are veterans playing with urgency.”

“Our game last month against Cal St. San Bernardino was one that we felt got away. We didn't play well but we still had a chance to win at the end. It's definitely a game we're hoping to get back.”
